ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS
Genevieve Strattman, LCSW
Genevieve has worked in Granite School district for the last 11 years in secondary education working in both the junior highs and high schools in West Valley City and Magna. Genevieve has and continues to serve and support both special ed and regular ed students and their families. Currently Genevieve supports Hunter Jr High, John F. Kennedy Jr High, and Valley Jr. High, all in West Valley City, UT. She is also currently the Hunter Jr High girls’ soccer coach.
While working with Granite, Genevieve was able to partner with NAMI, the National Alliance of Mental Illness non-profit organization to access their school-based mental health awareness and suicide prevention curriculum to present to students in the classroom; as well as to parents, school faculty and personnel in order to best support the student. Genevieve is teaching NAMI’s Hope for Tomorrow program in the classroom covering information regarding suicide prevention and mood, eating, and substance abuse disorders. Additionally, Genevieve is a Utah state trainer in NAMI’s Parents and Teachers as Allies (PTA) program. The PTA presentation gives awareness, information and insight to parents, teachers, guidance counselors and administrators about how mental health affects a student’s academic, social, and emotional well-being.
This year Genevieve is training faculty and staff at her schools on being more trauma-informed and recognizing how trauma in the student’s life affects their access to education. Social and emotional trauma has been an area of interest for Genevieve for the last few years and is a topic she would like to teach to school personnel in order to help students achieve their full potential in life.
Genevieve is married with two kids, ages 8 and 6. She tries her best to be invested in her own children’s education and social/emotional health….which is not easy!
Genevieve is currently taking care of herself by spending time with family, connecting with good friends, exercising, eating healthy (mostly), managing her own mental health, trying to get a good night’s sleep every single night, laughing a lot, and showing appreciation to all the people and places who make her life feel full.
