Alex Adema

COO
Alex Adema is the COO of DPS Skis, managing daily operations of the young, growing company, headquartered here in Salt Lake City. DPS Skis designs and manufactures the world’s most advanced skis. DPS is a key contributor to the Outdoor Recreation Economy in Utah with an ever growing global reach. Alex earned his bachelor's degree in Economics & Business from Colorado College in 2000, where he also played Varsity Lacrosse. In 2012, he completed the Executive MBA program at The University of Buffalo (SUNY). In 2014, Alex participated in the Leadership Buffalo (NY) program, a sister program to Leadership Utah. Alex enjoys skiing and spending time outdoors with his wife and four children. He moved from Buffalo, New York in 2015. Although he loves his new hometown, he remains a devout Buffalo Bills and Sabres fan! Alex is an active member of his church, volunteering and serving as a deacon.
Jesse Allen

Principal
Jesse Allen is a Principal at GSBS Architects. He is a licensed Architect and Landscape Architect. He has worked on a variety of public and private projects, most notably the Regent Street Improvement Project, the Salt Lake City Public Safety Building, the Natural History Museum of Utah, and an elementary school for a non-profit outside of Kigali, Rwanda. Jesse earned his Bachelor's of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning from Utah State University in 2004 and his Masters of Architecture from University of Utah in 2007. Jesse enjoys backcountry skiing, running, mountain biking, and watching and coaching (sometimes playing) soccer.
Cameron Arellano
GREENbike
Operations Manager
Cameron Arellano is the Operations Manager for GREENbike, SLC's non-profit bike share program. He has been with the GREENbike program since its inception in 2013. The focus of GREENbike is to get people out of cars and on bikes to help decrease air pollution, decrease city congestion and increase active transportation within the community. Cameron earned his bachelor's of science in Environmental and Sustainability Studies with a minor in Geography from the University of Utah. During his senior year in college, he interned with GREENbike and was quickly hired to a full-time position. He likes to live an extremely active lifestyle. Some of his hobbies include mountain biking, hiking, basketball, snowboarding, trail running, softball, resistance training, camping and anything else that involves the great outdoors. Cameron is from the Bay Area so he also enjoys watching the Warriors, Giants and 49ers play although the Jazz are still his favorite team.
JD Ashby

VP, Claims
JD Ashby is the VP of claims for WCF Insurance. He manages the company's subrogation, medical management, and special investigations departments. He also oversees the claims department's data-analytics efforts. JD formerly worked for ten years in WCF's legal department and three years in HR. JD earned his bachelor's degree in organizational communication from the University of Utah and his law degree from the University of Utah SJ Quinney College of Law. During law school, he worked as a clerk for WCF's legal department and a graduate assistant in the University of Utah athletic department. JD enjoys spending time with his wife and three young daughters. They plan all activities around the Utah Jazz schedule. JD and a colleague have also developed interactive workshops that teach effective business writing and effective presentation skills. They deliver those workshops to various companies and other groups.
Dave Biesinger

Dave Biesinger manages strategic initiatives for the Public Affairs Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a leader of cross-functional teams, he leverages the skills and talents of researchers, designers, content producers, and developers. Dave earned a bachelor’s in Film Studies from the University of Utah. After graduation, he worked in advertising and marketing. Dave and his wife, Amy, live in Provo with their two adventurous kids.
Marisa Bomis

Marisa Bomis is the marketing & communication manager for the Salt Lake Chamber. She is responsible for managing digital content the Chamber produces, including the website, social media channels, and external communications. In addition to developing marketing campaigns and communication strategies of the Chamber. Marisa has a bachelor's in Marketing, and Finance from the University of Utah. Marisa is also a strong supporter of the arts community, she volunteers for the Salt Lake Film Society, Sundance Film Festival and the Utah Arts Festival, and is always looking for new opportunities where she can get involved. In her free time she is an avid concert goer, runner, snowboarder, traveler, and yogi.
Laura Briefer

Director Dept of Public Utilities
Laura is the Director of the Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities. As Director, she is responsible for ensuring the supply of clean, reliable drinking water to 350,000 people in the Salt Lake Valley, and the management of stormwater, wastewater, and street lights throughout Salt Lake City. Laura earned her bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies from the University of California at Santa Barbara. She earned her Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Utah. While at the University of Utah, Laura and her team won first place in a national Policy Challenge exploring problems and solutions related to youth unemployment. In her free time, Laura enjoys running, hiking, and riding her bike through the Wasatch Mountains. She and her husband and two children (ages 8 and 10) love to explore the outdoors together throughout Utah and the country, raise chickens for fresh eggs, grow vegetables, and cook healthy meals.
Scott Brown

Director, Local Government Relations
Scott Brown is the Director of Local Government Relations for Salt Lake Community College. His focus is working with local elected officials and government entities to find methods for collaboration. Scott earned a bachelor's and master's degree in political science from Utah State University. His experience includes working for US Senator Garn in Washington DC, Utah state government agencies and non-profit health organizations in the government relations field. Scott is married and the father of twin 20-year-old sons and a 14-year-old step-daughter. In his free time, Scott enjoys doing art projects, primarily with wood and metals. He also likes to travel and see new places. His goal is to travel to more international destinations.

Silvia Castro is the founder and CEO of SCT Consulting Inc. Silvia has worked with top level executives to launch several strategic initiatives. Her company is focused on strategic growth, marketing and workforce development. Silvia earned her Master's in Business Administration from the University of Utah and her Bachelor of Arts in International Business from Westminster College. She also holds a Six Sigma Black Belt and a project management certificate from UC Berkeley. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family. She loves to travel and live like a local. She is currently trying to learn how to play golf when her schedule allows for it.
Jill Christensen

Jill Christensen is the AVP, human resources at Workers Compensation Fund Insurance. She manages the day-to-day HR operations, working closely with the senior vice president of HR to manage WCF's organizational structure and HR initiatives. Jill earned her bachelor's degree in business management from the University of Utah and her master's in public administration from Brigham Young University. She completed an internship in Washington DC through the Hinckley Institute of Politics, working for Utah congressman James Hansen. In her free time Jill enjoys hiking, camping, and traveling with her family. She also enjoys running, watching home-remodeling shows, and has recently taken on more home renovation projects than she should. Jill loves to travel anywhere because there is always a crazy and memorable story to tell. Jill is married to Dave Christensen and they have four active, adventurous children.

Dori Clark is a Group Sales Representative at Lagoon. She manages corporate, community events and teambuilding opportunities for groups of any size. This is the beginning of her 16th Season at Lagoon where she has been assistant manager of the Admissions Division (9.5 years) before joining the marketing team. She served on the Davis Chamber Leadership Institute Executive Committee for the last 3 years as vice –chair and was Chair of that committee this past year.  Dori is dedicated to the success of each of her family members and enjoys spending time with them. She celebrated 31 years of marriage in June. She is the proud mom of one fantastic daughter, a son-in-law and the grandmother of two beautiful granddaughters! She enjoys a good football, basketball game or tennis match. Dori spends her quite time reading motivational books, listening to jazz, taking care of her ailing parents and serving in her community and church any way that she can.

Judd Cook is the Director of Business Development for Questar Corporation. He is tasked with finding and developing new revenue generating opportunities for the corporation. His recent efforts have focused on natural gas as a transportation fuel in the heavy-duty trucking market. He has worked with some of the biggest trucking companies in the U.S. to ease their transition to natural gas. Judd earned his undergraduate and Masters of Business Administration degrees from Weber State University, where he was awarded the Goddard Scholar award for academic excellence. Judd enjoys snowboarding in the winter and wakesurfing in the summer. He spends much of his free time watching his kids play sports.

Director of Urban Development
Jesse Dean is the Director of Urban Development with the Downtown Alliance. In this role, he is responsible for representing downtown property owners on policy positions and economic development initiatives in the downtown area. Jesse earned his B.A. in History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Jesse spends most of his free time in the Wasatch Mountains. He is an avid backcountry skier, biker and fly fisherman. He and his wife live with their two pit bulls in the Liberty Park neighborhood.

Kate Edwards is Executive Director of Friends for Sight. She is passionate about saving the sight of children and adults throughout Utah, and honored to lead one of Utah’s many exceptional non-profit organizations. Kate also serves on the Intermountain Medical Center Community Advisory Council, Women’s Business Center Development Committee and Utah Profits Association Public Policy Committee.   Prior to her work at Friends for Sight, Kate was Director of Development at the Waterford School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Utah while working for the Utah Football team.  Kate and her husband, Mike, have two teenage children.  When she’s not working, you can usually find her on a football or baseball field. 
Debbie Ehrman

Deputy Director
Deborah Ehrman is Deputy Director for the Salt Lake City Library. She has worked for the Library since 1985 in a variety of departments and branches. The most recent project that she completed for the Library is the Marmalade Branch in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Salt Lake City. She is a member of the Library's Executive Leadership Team which oversees a system staff of 191 FTE, $18 M budget and is overseen by a policy board. She is a member of Salt Lake City's Capital City Education Alliance Team that includes representatives from the city, the school district and higher education. Deborah received her BA in English from Wilmington College, Wilmington OH and completed a Master's in Library Science in 2001 from Emporia State University, KS through a distance program cohort. Deborah has four grown sons and her husband is a Teacher Librarian in the Salt Lake School District. She enjoys hiking, gardening, traveling, and attending local arts programs.

Troy Erickson is the district Manager for Salt Lake Downtown. He manages 12 retail branches and 129 employees. Troy graduated from Weber State University with a degree in Finance, and minor in Spanish. Graduate of PCBS in 2009. He enjoys hiking, golfing, basketball and spending time with his 5 kids (2 sets of twin boys and a girl.)

Leadership Giving Director
Zenia Frendt is a Leadership Giving Director at United Way of Salt Lake. Zenia is the Director of UWSL's Women's Leadership Council, which focuses specifically on education efforts for at-risk girls and young women. Her position includes major gift fundraising, organizing and executing various volunteer projects, and coordinating networking and social events. Zenia is a graduate of Colby College, one of the top liberal arts schools in the country, where she earned a BA in International Affairs and a BA in Cultural Anthropology. She also graduated from the School of International Training in Rabat, Morocco, where she studied politics, government, and religion. Zenia loves to travel and is fluent in French and Portuguese. She enjoys all that the Utah outdoors have to offer, and spends most of her weekends exploring with her daughters. She also loves to volunteer, and is currently a mentor to a high school student.

Kathleen Fueston has been a Human Resource professional for 29 years working in many various industries including running her own HR consulting business. Currently she works for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Global Workforce Relations. Kathleen earned her bachelor's degree in Human Resource Development from Brigham Young University and her master's degree in Organizational Leadership with an emphasis in Servant Leadership from Gonzaga University. As part of her masters program, she was able to attend three international residencies: Ireland - to study the peace process, Italy - to study the Renaissance impact and Colombia - to study Community Development. Kathleen is an avid lover and follower of the arts, especially theater, attending performances throughout the state and everywhere she travels. Her family loves visiting the natural wonders of the world and always has a national parks pass.

Bryce Harding is the sales manager for the Western Region for Delta Stone Products based in Heber City, Utah. He has had experience in many industries over the course of his career. The past 13 years have been spent in the stone industry. After finishing high school in Arizona, Bryce left to serve in the Marine Corps where he spent eight years. Because life does not always follow a straight path, his career then took him to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office to Chevron Products Company to Hard Rock Tool and finally to Delta Stone Products. Bryce and his wife, Leah, are the parents of eight energetic children who keep them busy all the time.
Bayley Hedglin

Bayley Hedglin began with the Monticello Chamber of Commerce. With in two years it was evident of the need for a county wide organization. The San Juan County Chamber of Commerce offers business programming including business expansion and retention services with a focus on rural, agriculture and the needs of businesses on the Navajo Nation. Bayley is currently pursuing her bachelors degree through Western Governors University. Bayley is the mother to seven children ages 16 to 4. She also is the co-owner of the local floral shop and tanning salon. With what minimal time she has left, Bayley loves spending time working in her garden.

Lacey Holmes has been with American Express since 2014 and serves as the Public Affairs and Communications Coordinator for the American Express Service Center located in Salt Lake City. In this role, she is responsible for executing the center-wide communications program, including strategic communication support for center leadership. Lacey graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in public relations and political science. She also earned a Master of Public Administration with an emphasis in nonprofit management from the University of Utah. While Lacey is originally from Boise, Idaho, after living in Utah for more than 10 years, SLC has become home. She enjoys reading all types of books, listening to nerdy podcasts, traveling to new and familiar locations, granting wishes with Make-A-Wish, and curling in the local curling league.

Liz Jackson is the Business Development and Outreach Manager for the Professional Education program at the University of Utah. Pro Ed is focused on educating those in the workforce - or hoping to join the workforce - looking to gain professional credentials, expand their knowledge, and build their resume. Liz's goal is to reach out to community members, organizations, and businesses, about this program and be a catalyst in the enhancement of Utah's workforce — and economy — through education and self-betterment. Liz earned her bachelor's in Urban Planning from the University of Utah, where she was a member of the Urban Planning Students Organization and Honors Sustainability Association. In her free time she loves to rock climb, paddle board, bike (road and mountain - both newer hobbies), adventure with her husband and dog, read, and garden. She also works on her newly-formed nonprofit, Seven Canyons Trust.

Program Coordinator
Valkyrie Johnson is the online coordinator for the Salt Lake Chamber Women's Business Center (WBC). She built the WBC's new website and helped plan, organize, and launch online training for women throughout the entire state of Utah. Valkyrie has a B.A. in Mass Communication from the University of Utah and an associate degree in Graphic Design. She also has a certificate in Event and Meeting Planning and loves taking additional classes on subjects she is interested in whenever she has time. Outside of work, Valkyrie is an artist with an emphasis on children’s book illustrations. She has been drawing a sketch every day since January 16, 2015. She loves going to fairs and festivals and is an expert at finding fun, inexpensive things to do.

Nicholas Kuhns is the Director of Hotel Operations for the Hilton Salt Lake City Center Hotel. He currently is responsible for all operating departments including: Front Office, Housekeeping, Food and Beverage and Banquets department. Nicholas earned his bachelor's of science degree in Hotel Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas while working as a Restaurant General Manager at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. As a family they enjoy any outdoor activities such as hiking as well as dining at locally owned and operated restaurants.
Chamonix Larsen

State of Utah Coordinator of Resource Stewardship
Chamonix Larsen coordinates the operational government efforts of the State of Utah to identify and implement best practices and stewardship measures to improve air quality. The State of Utah is an organization with over 20,000 employees and various agencies that serve Utah citizens. Chamonix Larsen is a licensed architect in the State of Utah, and has a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Utah. She has worked in both public agencies and private architectural firms, and has focused her career developing skills related to improving human and environmental health. Chamonix enjoys teaching her sons to explore the outdoors. As a lifelong Utah skier, she spends many hours in the mountains and can't remember a winter before she learned to ski. She also enjoys painting with acrylics, and cooking without a recipe.
Ryan Mack

With his eyes and ears to the street of downtown, Ryan Mack is the Community Engagement Coordinator for the Downtown Alliance. He manages social media accounts for the DTA, GREENbike and the Farmers Market. Ryan also manages websites for the DTA umbrella and is a contributor to Downtown the Magazine. Ryan has a bachelor's degree from the University of Utah in Political Science with a marketing minor. When he's not downtown, you can find Ryan mountain biking and skiing in the Wasatch backcountry.
Mike Manning

Strategic Relations Manager
Mike Manning is the strategic relations manager at WGU. Mike manages a team of 23 outside community relations managers,, spread out across the country. this team primary role is to build substantial partnerships, with companies that value education. Mike also engages large companies (i.e. Zions Bancorp), to build synergistic relationships and plans to meet the companies employee educational development goals. Mike earned an associates degree in general studies and went on to complete a bachelors in Business Management. Mike has continued on to finish an MBA with Western Governors university in 2011. Mike spends most of his time with his family. his three boys are very active in sports and Mike coaches them in lacrosse and football. He also spends a lot of time working with the youth in his church.

Nate Mathews is the Service Manager for the Salt Lake location. His main focus is to ensure customer loyalty and outstanding customer service. Customer visits, audits, new installs, problem solving, open communication and negotiating with customers. Manage retention and growth by motivating the Service team to solicit new customersand retain current customers, up-sell/cross-sell/sample all lines of service or product and ensure a profitable product mix. Monitor and report competitive activity. Oversee promotions, contests and continued excellent customer relationships Nate is currently working on his Degree with Western Governors He enjoys camping and fishing, and scuba diving. Nate has coached soccer for the last 10 years and enjoys time with his wife and kids at these outdoor activities.
Kim Mayhew

Kim Mayhew is the General Manager of Solitude Mountain Resort. This position oversees all of the operations of the resort both summer and winter and include Food and Beverage, Accounting and Finance, Lodging operations, Snowsports Services operations and all Mountain operations. Kim earned a degree in Dental Hygiene from New Hampshire Technical College in Concord New Hampshire. She practiced Dental Hygiene for four years before moving to Utah in 1980 to pursue a career in the ski industry. After thirty four years at Deer Valley, Kim was named General Manager of Solitude when Deer Valley purchased Solitude on May 1, 2015. She has been in her current position for one year. Kim is an avid outdoor enthusiast. She enjoys all disciplines of skiing including alpine, crosscountry and telemark. When she's not skiing, she enjoys hiking, biking, and reading. Kim and her husband Jack enjoy spending time with their son Peter and his wife Victoria, who live in Park City.
Maybell McCann

Maybell McCann is the Executive Director for Community Health Charities, a nonprofit 501(c)3 group. She works with charity partners, both locally and nationwide, businesses and work site partners and givers in the community. The donations raised on behalf of the charity partners fund programs related to long term health challenges, research and education programs. Charity Partners include Ronald McDonald House Charities, American Cancer Society and Alzheimer's Association to name a few. Maybell was educated in Scotland and England and after graduating from high school was appointed as a Police Constable in the Lincolnshire Police Force, England. She served for over 12 years in varying roles, including Law Enforcement, Police Cadet Training and the Family Service Unit (dealing in cases of sexual abuse and assaults). Emigrated to the USA in 1984 and spent 22 years in banking and the last 8 years at Community Health Charities.
Clay Monroe

Clay Monroe is the Commercial and Industrial DSM Program Manager for Rocky Mountain Power. Day to day he manages a staff of over 30 individuals and firms delivering DSM programs across Utah, Idaho and Wyoming. Clay earned a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Chapman University and a Master’s in Public Administration from California State University, San Bernardino. He has been certified by the American Public Power Association, American Water Works Association and Irrigation Association. He is a graduate of the Leadership Riverside program. Clay enjoys spending time in the outdoors with his wife and four children.
Jim Murray

Director, Government Programs
Jim Murray is a Director of Government programs with SelectHealth. He is responsible for strategic direction of the Government Programs department responsibilities relative to the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Federal Employee Health Benefit Program (FEHB), Utah Health Information Network (UHIN), Utah Health Data Committee and the Avenue H and Your Health Idaho (YHI) state based exchanges/marketplaces. Jim earned a bachelor's in Accounting with a minor in Economics from Weber State University. He later earned his CPA designation after passing the CPA examination and accumulating over two years of experience under the direction of Main Hurdman & Cranstoun and Coopers & Lybrand CPA firms. He loves to travel with his family and took them to visit his grandfathers birthplace in northern Italy. Jim and his wife's latest adventure has been a move to a larger home for the enjoyment of his children and grandchildren.
Chris Nelson

Chris Nelson is the Executive Director of the University of Utah Hospital Foundation. He has more than 20 years of experience in marketing, PR/communication and fundraising. The goal of the Foundation is to build community and philanthropic support for the University's flagship hospital. Chris has bachelor degrees in both political science and communication from the Univeristy of Utah. He recently earned his Masters in Public Administration from the U's Executive MPA program. He completed additional course work at the University to earn a graduate certificate in Integrated Marketing Communications. As an undergraduate, he served as an intern in the White House during the Clinton administration and as an intern at KSL News. Chris and his wife Debra are the parents of four children and two beagles, and enjoy traveling to warm beaches and exploring National Parks. Chris enjoys playing tennis and golf (although not very well).
Shawn Newell

Shawn Newell is responsible for the development of new business opportunities for Industrial Supply Company. He is also charged with new product selection and the process of driving new products through the sales team and sales processes. Shawn earned a bachelor's in Sociology from the University of Utah. He also acquired a degree in Marketing Management followed by a Masters in Management. Shawn has continued his education by gaining numerous manufacturer certifications. In shawn's free time he is a sports official. He is the Vice President of the Salt Lake branch of the NAACP. Through an appointment, Shawn currently serves as a member of the Govenor's Human Rights Commission. Shawn serves on the board of trustees for EDCUtah and is active with the UMA. He continues to work to improve both the business and civil communities.
Kirk Nord

Kirk Nord oversees all relationships between Utah Cities and Counties and Comcast. His emphasis is on franchise agreement negotiation, advocacy, and building better relationships between local government and Comcast. Kirk Nord earned his Juris Doctorate from Southern Methodist University and his Bachelors in International Relations from Brigham Young University. Kirk has practiced law for over fifteen years in a career that includes corporate and local municipal government work. In his free time, Kirk enjoys playing sports, hiking, camping, fishing and participating in Ragnar and Spartan races. He also enjoys volunteering his time coaching his children in their various sports activities and spending time with the homeless.

Leslie Nuon is responsible for generating and servicing a wide variety of business loans. She contributes to deposit growth by cross selling and promoting additional banking products. She aggressively seeks and obtains quality new business through client and prospect calls, referrals, and cross selling efforts. Leslie is responsible for building and maintaining relationships, credit monitoring, and credit risk analysis. Leslie has a Bachelor's of Science in Business Finance from Westminster College. Leslie loves traveling whenever she is able and shopping for shoes. She enjoys spending her time designing and working at her family Jewelry Shop.
Lisa Ostrander

Programs & Events Coordinator
Lisa Ostrander serves as the programs and events coordinator and as a member of the business development team for the Salt Lake Chamber. She graduated from Winona State University in 2011 with a bachelors degree in mass communications: public relations. Her work background includes marketing, creative design, website and social media maintenance, client relations, event planning, radio and copywriting. A Minneapolis native with a passion for traveling, Lisa moved to Utah in 2012 to pursue her love of the outdoors and to join Utah’s ever-growing business scene. Her outdoor interests include hiking, backpacking, camping, fishing, rock-climbing, disc golf and hanging out with friends at the lake. She has also held positions in the Chamber's Women's Business Center and Marketing Department prior to joining and now leading the event staff. She attended Weber State University where she majored in business management and information technology and received a bachelor’s degree in Marketing from the University of Phoenix. Jackie and her husband Rod have two teenage daughters. Over the past few years she’s turned into an excellent chauffeur, a wickedly cool softball mom and a pitiful maid.
