SUMMARY:FREE Concert - Choral Arts Society & Utah Wind Symphony Present October Winds & Song
DESCRIPTION:The Choral Arts Society of Utah is joining forces with the Utah Wind Symphony for two nights\, for what promises to be a beautiful\, exciting and rousing concert filled with\n\n20th century music that promises to keep you at times on the edge of your seat\, with "A Concert Celebration" of Andrew Lloyd Webber and "When you Believe" from The Prince of Egypt\, and at other times feeling moments of introspection with the quiet and haunting composition by Eric Whitacre\, "Sleep". The Utah wind symphony will celebrate light with the 3rd Movement\, "Apollo Unleashed" of Frank Ticheli's Symphony No. 2.\, and another celebratory piece\, "Fiesta" by Philip Sparke\, commissioned by the United States Army Field Band to celebrate their 50th Anniversary. Admission is free and no tickets are required.\n\n\n\nThe Utah Wind Symphony is unlike any other group currently performing in Utah. This premiere ensemble is a wind and percussion band\, reflecting the tradition of wind bands in America. Originally organized by a University of Utah graduate student and a local high school band director\, the UWS now includes a talented mix of professional freelance musicians\, music educators\, and faculty from three of Utah's universities. The Utah Wind Symphony is under the direction of Scott Hagen\, and they recently performed at the 2014 Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago\, Illinois. Now in its 30th year\, the Choral Arts Society of Utah's 100-voice mixed choir is based in Salt Lake City\, and recently won the silver medal award at the Sing-n-Joy Choral Competition in Provo\, Utah. Many of their performances are benefit concerts for schools and organizations providing humanitarian services to local areas. See a complete listing of the choir's upcoming performances at\n\nwww.casu.org or find them on Facebook and Twitter!\n\n\n\nThis concert is funded in part by a grant from the Salt Lake County Zoo Arts & Parks (ZAP)
