DESCRIPTION:The Leonardo and Utah Black Chamber are jointly hosting traveling exhibition Sorting Out Race and a series of talking circles for corporate groups looking to collaboratively explore ways their company can increase diversity and inclusion. This is initiative is a part of a joint goal to encourage critical thinking and education around topics or race and representation and support our corporate community in leading the way towards more diverse and equitable workplaces.\n\n\n\nAbout the Exhibit\;\n\nEvery day thrift stores across America receive donations of objects that display racial imagery antique advertising cards\, collectible salt-and-pepper shakers\, vintage children's books\, and mugs with sports team mascots. Are these objects harmless reminders of historical attitudes or do they continue to perpetuate negative stereotypes about race? Should thrift stores sell these objects? Or should they be "sorted out" of the resale environment and discarded?\n\n \n\nJOIN DR. JACKIE THOMPSON FOR A FACILITATED TALKING CIRCLE ON DIVERSITY\, EQUITY AND INCLUSION\n\nDr. Thompson bio\; Dr. Jacqueline Thompson has a lifelong career in education and equity. She has previously worked as teacher\, at Utah State Office of Education and Hill Air Force Base. Dr. Thompson has received numerous awards and national recognition for her work. Most recently she received The Women in American History Award from Utah State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.\n\n \n\nTalking circles for corporate groups are available for $1000 for up to 20 participants. Each group will have 1 hour to explore the exhibit and 1 hour to participate in a private talking circle with Dr. Thompson which is designed to support your team in fostering learning around diversity and inclusion in the work your company does. \n\nThis is an opportunity for companies with commitments to diversity\, equity and inclusion to provide a platform for teams to join together to explore the impact of stereotypical representations in our professional and personal worlds and collaboratively identify areas where the team can deepen its focus on building equitable professional spaces.\n\n \n\nThis offering is designed to foster learning and team work\, to help teams navigate challenging conversations and walk away with new levels of understanding and awareness.
