The Utah Museum of Contemporary Art
Since its inception in 1931, the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (UMOCA) has been an
independent voice committed to the most pressing issues of its day and a gathering space
for artists and creatives in our region. Throughout its 94-year history and each incarnation,
(Art Barn 1931-1958) (Salt Lake Art Center 1959-2010) (Utah Museum of Contemporary Art
2011-Present), we have maintained a commitment to the values of community, local
artists, education, awareness, and inclusion.
Our Mission
The Utah Museum of Contemporary Art believes in the power of the art of our time. Through
programming, advocacy, and collaboration, we work with artists and communities to build
a better world.
The Blocks

The Blocks is a visionary initiative of the City and County to promote the abundance and vibrancy of our creative community, facilitate partnerships and collaborations, and activate underutilized spaces to establish downtown Salt Lake City as the premier cultrurdistrict of the Intermountain West. In addition to championing Downtown?s established artists and arts organizations, The Blocks curates unique events and programs that activate underutilized spaces and infuse the public realm with energy, inspiration, and artistic discovery.
