Business Women's Forum 2022: Becoming a Changemaker

Join us for the May 2022 Business Women's Forum: Becoming a Changemaker, presented by Lais Martinez, Assistant Commissioner for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion for the Utah System of Higher Education. During this presentation, we will explore the adoption of the Utah System of Higher Education's Equity Lens Framework. We'll discuss being a changemaker, creating organizational change from the margins, and the challenges that come with going against the grain. ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Laís Martinez, Assistant Commissioner for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, Utah System of Higher Education
Laís Martinez is a native east coaster who came to Utah to pursue college opportunities and never left. Currently, she works at the Utah System of Higher Education as the first appointed Assistant Commissioner for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. Laís received a Master's from the University of Utah in Education, Culture, and Society and started her career in education directly advising K12 students on the opportunities that exist within Utah's college and career landscape.

Laís is most proud of her time working in Latinos in Action, AVID, TRIP, GearUP college readiness classrooms engaging students in writing their personal statements, and developing young leaders using culturally sustaining pedagogies in Hip Hop. Today, Laís advises state leaders on the barriers that exist for underrepresented students interested in college and works to address systemic change through policy and funding. In her free time, Laís enjoys exploring every body of water Utah has to offer with her two kiddos, Ariana and Adrian.

NON-PROFIT SPOTLIGHT:

The mission of the American Cancer Society is to save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer. As we all know, when cancer strikes, it hits from all sides. That's why we're committed to attacking cancer from every angle. With more than 100 years of experience and leadership, we are a global force, fighting all cancers on all fronts, across the US and around the globe. With the help of millions of supporters, we launch breakthrough research, create empowering resources for people to outsmart cancer, enable local communities to support those affected, and convene powerful activists to create awareness and impact.

ResearcHERS:
The American Cancer Society in Utah is looking for women to join them as ambassadors to help lead a new campaign called ResearcHERS: Women Fighting Cancer. The goal of the campaign is to identify female executives, community leaders, and influential women to raise awareness and funds to elevate and expand the work of female lead discoveries in the fight against cancer. The American Cancer Society is proud to be a top supporter of women in cancer research. Currently half of ACS's grantees are women, most of them early in their careers.

ResearcHERS shines a light on the most exciting women-led cancer research projects in the field -- and helps sustain the important work of these brilliant scientists. By participating as a ResearcHERS ambassador, you'll be helping to fund the important work that continues to save lives from cancer. ACS is currently funding five female researchers at the University of Utah and Huntsman.

As an ambassador you set a goal of raising at least $2,500 to help the American Cancer Society.
