ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Utah First Lady Abigail Palmer Cox
Abby Palmer Cox became Utah's first lady when her husband Spencer J. Cox was sworn in as governor on Jan. 4, 2021. She and Governor Cox, her high school sweetheart, have been married for 26 years. As Utah's first lady, Abby hopes to inspire Utahns to break down the barriers that separate people from treating one another as equals. She is an outspoken advocate for "getting proximate," connecting through our differences, and combating the empathy crisis our country is facing. Abby's initiative is called "Show Up," and she uses her platform to convene, contribute to, and champion projects related to emotional self-reliance, service, foster care and sporting opportunities for children who live with intellectual disabilities. Born and raised in the small rural town of Mt. Pleasant, Utah, Abby grew up on the Palmer family ranch where the values of hard work and grit were a way of life. She is honored to serve with Utahns as First Lady.

NON-PROFIT SPOTLIGHT:

Show Up is First Lady Abby Cox's initiative. Through this initiative, they encourage Utahns everywhere to reach out wherever they are and however they can to lift others, serve, show support and be willing to learn about and appreciate different points of view. They Show Up with empathy and understanding instead of prejudice and animosity. They Show Up with open hearts and willing minds. They are focused on four key areas where Utahns can Show Up. The first is mental wellness and life skills - helping educators and students to cultivate the skills they will need for success in the workplace and community. Second, they are partnering with local foster care organizations to care for Utah's foster kids and families that support them. Third, through public-private partnerships, they are expanding the incredible Special Olympics Unified Sports program, where children with all abilities participate on sports teams with their peers. Fourth, partner with local businesses, organizations, and communities to do service throughout the state.
