Great Salt Lake Institute presents: The Lake

Join Westminster University’s Great Salt Lake Institute for a free screening of the award-winning documentary The Lake on September 3, 2026.

The Lake is a vérité film that follows Dr. Bonnie Baxter and other Utah researchers and advocates as they confront the ecological collapse of Great Salt Lake, “a crisis decades in the making.” 

The film premiered at the 2026 Sundance Festival, where it won the U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award for Impact for Change and was nominated for best documentary.

A conversation with Dr. Bonnie Baxter, filmmaker Abby Ellis, and Westminster University President Sylvia Torti will accompany the screening, followed by a reception.
