SALT LAKE CITY, Aug. 6, 2012—The Leonardo and the Utah Science and Technology Research initiative (USTAR) present the next episode of Leonardo After Hours, Information Overlord: Conquering the Crush of Almost-Infinite Data.
Ever since human beings first started collecting information, we've been overwhelmed by how to make sense of the deluge of data. In today's digital age, the challenge is even more crushing. Information is being created faster than even our fastest supercomputers can process, and the human impact of how we interpret and use data -- as well as who makes crucial decisions -- could be both miraculous and disastrous.
Enjoy a multimedia presentation featuring special guest Miriah Meyer, USTAR researcher at the University of Utah's Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute, who uses data visualization to help researchers see things they never imagined. Meyer is a rising tech star, who's received kudos from places like Fast Company Magazine, Technology Review and Microsoft.
WHEN: Fri. August 17, 6pm – 7:30pm
WHERE: The Leonardo, 209 East 500 South
COST: Event is free;

Leonardo After Hours is a joint production of The Leonardo and the Utah Science Technology and Research Initiative (USTAR). The quarterly events explore science and technology in society through the lens local innovation, and are made possible with generous support from CH2MHill.
The Utah Science Technology and Research initiative (USTAR) is a long-term, state-funded investment to strengthen Utah's "knowledge economy” and generate high-paying jobs. Funded in March 2006 by the State Legislature, USTAR is based on three program areas. The first area involves funding for strategic investments at the University of Utah and Utah State University to recruit world-class researchers. The second area is to build state-of-the-art interdisciplinary facilities at these institutions for the innovation teams. The third program area involves teams that work with companies and entrepreneurs across the State to promote science, innovation, and commercialization activities. For more information, go to www.innovationutah.com or follow USTAR on Twitter at http://twitter.com/Innovationutah.
