International Women's Day Celebration: Opportunities and Challenges for Women in International Business

​Join us for the International Women's Day Celebration: Opportunities and Challenges for Women in International Business.

This will be an afternoon of delicious food, a content-rich panel of globally successful women entrepreneurs and networking with great company.  The panel will be moderated by Pat Jones, CEO of the Women's Leadership Institute.

About the presenters

Pat Jones, CEO, Women's Leadership Institute



Jones was tapped as CEO because of her background and expertise in the business and political worlds as well as her ability to engage, collaborate and lead. As co-founder and former President of Dan Jones & Associates, a successful public opinion and market research firm for 35 years, Jones helped lead and manage the company while serving on numerous community and company boards. Jones is an experienced and highly-regarded researcher, specializing in qualitative research, having conducted hundreds of focus groups throughout the country for a variety of industries since 1980.

Senator Jones served in the Utah Legislature for 14 years, serving in leadership positions 12 of those years. She was a member of the Utah House of Representatives from 2000-2006 and was elected to the Utah Senate in 2006-2014, serving eight years there, including serving as the first female leader in either party and in either House. While in the Utah Legislature, Jones was a member of various committees, including Public Education, Higher Education, Health and Human Services, Judiciary, Economic Development, Law Enforcement, Government Operations and Executive Appropriations. 

 

Becky Johnson, Senior Global Marketing Manager , Utah Office of Tourism


Becky Johnson is the Senior Global Marketing Manager for the Utah Office of Tourism. In this role, Becky manages the global strategy for the Utah Office of Tourism, Film and Global Branding. Before joining the UOT in 2015, Becky worked for the international marketing departments for a diverse range of organizations in the Utah Tourism industry, including ski providers, hotels, and attractions.
 
Becky earned her MBA with a concentration in marketing from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah, and has undergraduate degrees from Johnson and Wales University in Denver, Colorado.

Becky is a Utah native and in her free time enjoys all the great things Utah has to offer, as well as sharing them on a global level.

Jenn Davis, Owner, The Blueberry Hill


Jennifer Davis is the owner of The Blueberry Hill, a baby and children’s accessories company located in Salt Lake City, Utah.
 
The Blueberry Hill was started in 2011. While she she isn’t exactly passionate about babies or hats, Jennifer does love entrepreneurship and seeing women find their place in business.
Products from The Blueberry Hill are sold worldwide through specialty boutiques, department stores, and online. The Blueberry Hill has also collaborated with the Chicago Blackhawks and was recently featured on the “O” list in Oprah magazine.
 
Jennifer believes her Attention Deficit Disorder is one of her greatest assets and makes no excuses for attending five separate universities and declaring six majors before graduating with a Liberal Arts degree from Utah State University. Jennifer spends most of her time trying to talk herself into going to the gym or looking for her phone.

 

Heidi Thorn, President and CEO, Navitus Sustainable Industries


Heidi founded Navitus Sustainable Industries a few years ago to bring an end to the pollution and contamination caused by landfilling and urban waste in cities worldwide. Their patented technology effectively converts garbage into clean, useful natural gas and then into dependable renewable power. True sustainability – turning local trash into local power.

Heidi’s professional background was in finance and investment banking, formerly with Morgan Stanley where she oversaw investment strategies & securities transactions, as well as advising real estate, manufacturing and energy related businesses.
Previously, she helped successfully launch a start-up in the financial services industry, that went from a single state presence, generating less than $1 million in monthly transactions to, in 3 years, becoming the industry leader - generating over $400 Million in monthly transactions and nationwide presence.

Pearl Wright, Marketing Director, Choice Humanitarian


As an advocate for social good, Pearl has been involved in the nonprofit sector for over 20 years in the capacity of both staff and volunteer.
Pearl works at CHOICE Humanitarian as the Director of Marketing and Communication. Previously she was the Interim CEO of the Utah Nonprofits Association and the Executive Director of the EnergySolutions Foundation and the VP of Community Relations for EnergySoluitons
Pearl holds a Masters of Professional Communication from Westminster College with an emphasis in technical writing and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Utah.
Pearl is learning to speak Spanish, an avid mountain biker, reader, and scuba diver, and global citizen.

Parking Instructions:
If you are driving, park in the west side of the parking lot on the corner with 400 South and State Street. When you arrive, proceed to the left/west (monthly and validated parking) area and take a ticket and pass through the yellow parking gate. We will provide validations upstairs at the front desk. 

Please do not enter on the right/east side and park in the two rows closest to the building or you will have to pay in advance and we will not be able to validate your parking. 


Please note that we are not able to guarantee parking for everyone in our lot.

We encourage you to take Traxs and help keep our air clean. Please use the Library Square stop on the red line to arrive at the Salt Lake Chamber offices.
