The Leonardo and Utah Black Chamber are jointly hosting traveling exhibition Sorting Out Race and a series of talking circles for corporate groups looking to collaboratively explore ways their company can increase diversity and inclusion. This is initiative is a part of a joint goal to encourage critical thinking and education around topics or race and representation and support our corporate community in leading the way towards more diverse and equitable workplaces.
About the Exhibit;
Every day thrift stores across America receive donations of objects that display racial imagery— antique advertising cards, collectible salt-and-pepper shakers, vintage children’s books, and mugs with sports team mascots. Are these objects harmless reminders of historical attitudes or do they continue to perpetuate negative stereotypes about race? Should thrift stores sell these objects? Or should they be “sorted out” of the resale environment and discarded?
