Virtual Trade Mission to Mexico: Industry Breakout Sessions

Mexico is a market of focus this year due to its proximity to the U.S. and ample trade and export opportunities. In preparation for the Governor-led trade mission to Mexico this October, the Governor's Office of Economic Development, World Trade Center Utah, and the Mexican Consul General’s office are offering a virtual series on April 21 for Utah businesses to gain market and industry intelligence while learning about current opportunities.

The virtual breakout sessions will focus on the agribusiness, technology, manufacturing, and aerospace and advanced manufacturing industries. Participating Utah businesses will be able to:

Directly engage with Mexican business and government leaders who specialize in their industry
Ask questions specific to their business
Gain insight focused on growing their business and sales in Mexico

Manufacturing Breakout Session
9:00 - 10:00 am MDT | April 21, 2021
The manufacturing sector in Mexico added over 203 billion U.S. dollars to the country's gross domestic product in 2019. Mexico is known for its automotive, plastics and resins, and textile manufacturing, but the market specializes in many industries.

Aerospace and Advanced Manufacturing Breakout Session
10:30 - 11:30 am MDT | April 21, 2021
Mexico’s aerospace industry has seen enormous growth, foreign investment attraction, and job creation. Aerospace has been a major focus in Mexican economic development, both as an industrial sector and in connection with commercial, private, and defense aviation growth. Mexico’s civilian aerospace market is huge, with a nearly 50 percent U.S. share.
Mexico’s advanced manufacturing offers a unique mixture of world-class capabilities with experienced professional workers, built around flexible services. This environment translates into a fast turnaround for high-mix, low-volume, flexible production at even lower costs to market than global competitors.

Information Technology Breakout Session
12:30 - 1:30 pm MDT | April 21, 2021
Mexico is an attractive market for technology products from the U.S. related to the IT services industry.  Mexico is developing IT clusters throughout the country to offer IT, software development, call centers, high-tech manufacture and engineering services to domestic users as well as to countries in North America and Europe.

Agribusiness Breakout Session
2:00 - 3:00 pm MDT | April 21, 2021
Mexico is the United States’ second-largest agricultural partner. In 2019, U.S. agricultural and related product exports to Mexico totaled USD 20 billion with overall bilateral agricultural trade nearing USD 50 billion. What's more, Mexico is the top destination for U.S. agricultural exports of corn, dairy products, poultry meat and eggs, sugar and sweeteners, distillers dried grains, and rice.
