POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Investments Director is responsible for leading WTC Utah’s investment attraction initiatives and supporting strategic business development opportunities across the state. This role focuses on connecting investors with Utah companies, promoting Utah’s business ecosystem, and building relationships that strengthen the state’s economic competitiveness.

 

This is a highly collaborative and externally facing role that blends economic development, relationship management, investment strategy, and international business engagement.

The mission of World Trade Center Utah (WTC Utah) is to accelerate growth for Utah businesses through our global network, programs, and services to make Utah the crossroads of the world — one business at a time. The core components of this effort include Business Advisory Services, International Programs, Marketing and Partnerships, and Finance and Administration. All business areas work together to provide small businesses with international opportunities, develop international growth strategies, and help execute those strategies around the globe. WTC Utah works with companies in every industry across the state, identifying and delivering on opportunities to drive their global growth.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand Utah and its various industry sectors and be able to tell the “Why Utah” story in a compelling manner to would-be investors. 
  • Represent Utah in domestic and international investment-oriented events (e.g., investment conferences). 
  • Build and maintain relationships with VCs, private equity firms, family offices, trade agencies, and foreign governments to drive strategic engagement and investment outcomes. 
  • Manage a pipeline of inbound business and investment opportunities, including early-stage startups, global corporations, and institutional investors. 
  • Collaborate with economic development partners, state leadership, and innovation hubs to strengthen Utah’s international competitiveness. 
  • Think laterally to identify relevant introductions to make. 
  • Make introductions to connect investors with opportunities. 
  • Record all work in Salesforce. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s Degree—ideally in economics or business. 
  • Knowledgeable about capital markets, corporate finance, and entrepreneurship. 
  • Experience or alacrity for business development. 
  • Maturity and gravitas to command respect from would-be investors and business and community leaders. 
  • Strong communication skills with an emphasis on verbal elicitation and written introductions. 
  • Attention to detail and excellent execution.
