U.S. Chamber of Commerce: COVID-19: The Power of Data and Predictive Analytics in Pandemics
This webinar, hosted by the U.S. Chamber Foundation and Tata Consultancy Services' Digital Empowers Campaign, is the first in a three-part virtual event series on COVID-19 response designed to bring the tech community together to address the challenges and opportunities, and create a platform for collective action.
As the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic circles the globe, high quality data collection and analysis play a critical role in discovering new information about COVID-19 and its spread. From entrepreneurs and technologists to researchers and high school students, the global tech community is leveraging open-source data to help make new insights about the pandemic.
On January 22, the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University launched the first interactive, web-based coronavirus dashboard, which tracks the COVID-19 spread in near-real time around the globe. Organizations from across the global innovation ecosystem have built on similar data to create descriptive models and platforms that develop a deeper understanding of COVID-19. Those predictive models have become more sophisticated as vast troves of data secured from varied sources - including social and news media, medical research and hospital records - expose new indicators to track the virus spread and recovery.
While technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) have been monumental to these insights, obtaining reliable data at scale continues to be a priority. During this webinar, we will hear from organizations at the helm of this effort to learn more about their COVID-19 models, how they serve different purposes, and where gaps in data still remain to monitor, understand and mitigate this pandemic.
