Position description: Garden and Greenhouse Coordinator 

Reports to:                 Operations 

Term:                         Seasonal, Part-time (March to October)

Compensation:           $22-$26/DOE

Closes:                       Open until filled

 

Overview:  The Garden & Greenhouse Coordinator is a part-time, seasonal position that is responsible for maintaining and cultivating the outdoor Intergenerational Garden, and operating and maintaining the campus greenhouse.

 Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage operation and maintenance of Neighborhood House greenhouse, including climate control system, pest management, chemical storage and tool inventory; 
  •  Manage and maintain outdoor intergenerational garden - including but not limited to soil amendment, weeding, deadheading, integrated pest management, fountains, and irrigation system; 
  • Collaborate with departmental managers in both our adult and children’s programs to provide ongoing gardening opportunities for adult clients and students, based on pre-approved monthly curriculum calendar; 
  • Manage and maintain food garden, coordinating with programs to ensure usage of food grown in the programmatic kitchens; 
  • Order and track supplies relating to programming and garden or greenhouse operation and maintenance; 
  • Preparing the garden and greenhouse for all tours and events, including the annual gala in September.  
  • Cleaning up the sidewalks and entranceways from this area of the facility and keeping it debris free. 

 

 Additional Responsibilities:  

  • Key contact for stakeholders and community partners interested in garden development, volunteering, and/or special projects. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience or education relating to horticulture, greenhouse operations, gardening and irrigation systems. 
  • Able to do moderate lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Able to bend, stoop, climb and work in inclement weather, as needed. 
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Able to work well independently and within a team structure. 
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
