The Sommelier at VENETO is an experienced and confident customer service-oriented team player who understands standards of world class service and hospitality, and who thrives in a fast-paced, ever changing environment. You will work closely with the Front of House team and owners (one owner is aka Wine Director) in providing superior service to all Guests. This person will be the ultimate example in providing VENETO-style service, leading by example for all other service team members. Be prepared to talk to us about your knowledge and experience with old-world wines and champagne.

Sommelier Responsibilities: 

  • Provide VENETO-style service to all Guests, following VENETO Bible and supplementary materials as the defining resources and standards. 
  • Accurately capture guest wine orders and accurately answer Guest questions about wine. 
  • Perform assigned opening and closing duties detailed on checklist, according to VENETO standards. 
  • Participate in daily pre-service meetings, weekly server meetings, monthly FOH meetings and full restaurant meetings.
  • Be a constant steward of the restaurant culture, ensuring it remain positive, productive and healthy, proactively alert ownership before anything would ever become a widespread issue.
  • Assist owners in any projects as needed.
  • Lead / assist in various wine related duties: inventory, monitoring, education
  • Participate in management meetings, contribute to FOH and restaurant meetings
  • Regularly communicate with team and owners, distribute information to team on behalf of leadership

  • Assist owners in any projects or ordering as needed

QUALIFICATIONS You Bring to the Table:

Wine Knowledge:

  • Excellent knowledge of wines and wine service
  • Food & Wine Pairings
  • Regional Expertise – Italy
  • Understanding of Viticulture & Winemaking
  • Wine Sales Proficiency
  • Ability to assist with organizing wine cellar, counting monthly inventory and staff wine training
  • Old-world wines 
  • Champagne
  • Preferably has earned, or is in pursuit of earning wine certification(s)

Hospitality:

  • Excellent knowledge of all aspects of dining room service
  • Basic Floor Service
  • General knowledge of food preparation methods and culinary terminology
  • An appetite for providing exceptional, memorable hospitality
  • Excellent emotional self-awareness, with a clear understanding of Guest and team boundaries
  • Ability to stay calm, professional, and solve problems when under pressure 
  • Gracious and pleasant demeanor with a positive attitude

REQUIREMENTS of The Job:

  • Learn, embody & proudly provide impeccable/invisible service to guests on a nightly basis, exemplifying the VENETO-style.
  • Preferably 2-3 years experience at a fine dining restaurant with similar service, Guest relations and operational standards.
  • Ability to work well on a team and receptive to feedback and coaching.
  • Professional appearance / grooming standards appropriate for a premier fine dining restaurant.
  • Interest in wine and pursuing ongoing wine education, preferred
  • Valid Food Handler and Sips & Tips
  • Ability to Lift 40+ lbs.
  • Available to work weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to multi-task with obsessive attention to details.
